The Nazis have fun (the other a little’ less…)
It is on display at the Holocaust Museum in Washington a photo album containing 116 Photo of SS officers in Auschwitz concentration camp. It is impressive to see how those same Nazis responsible for the horrors of the camp were cheerful and happy in their moments of rest.
The photographs, taken between May and December 1944, depict guards and officers while celebrating Christmas or sing accompanied by an accordion.
Well fed, well-fed, young and strong, smiling at the goal as two schoolchildren on vacation.
In some pictures are surprised while crush even a postprandial NAP deeply at peace with yourself and with the world.
The images were stored for all these years by Karl Hoecker, an aide to the Commander of the extermination camp of Auschwitz, Camp liberated by Soviet troops on 27 January 1945.
«These pictures only show vividly how they had fun while kept under control a world of unimaginable suffering. Offer an important perspective on the psychology of those who perpetrated the genocide», said in a statement the Museum Director Sara Bloomfield.
The thing that, though, strikes the Viewer is comparing these photos and other snapshots taken in the same field, on the same dates, but with different subjects: the victims for the gas chambers. Terrified children, Desperate Moms, people reduced to a subhuman whose ugliness generated by suffering contrasts with the beauty and happiness of the torturers.
So it becomes easy to say that the bad, the faint, the unhappy, unnecessary are only a burden which should soon release. But those same individuals submitted, underfed, ill deck would not be such if it had allowed them to remain in their own homes, to live their little lives inoffensive.
L’ combination of these pictures seem to contain some lessons for today's world.
In modern society c ’ is so much contempt for the poor and outcast and a lot of esteem for those who manage to achieve money and power no matter how. At the same time there is the biggest lack the moral virtues. A philosophy subtly materialistic and deftly nihilist he infected step by step until we replace the ethical values with “values” cheap, so much so that l’ Economy is silently passed from branch of moral philosophy in exact science. Here's that has become impossible to choose between two options, an ethics and l’ other convenient. Only the choice of convenient has become possible. But when it comes to affordable we always forgets to point out for those.
